A selection of parameters will be addressed as EEM subjects; others will be monitored at a surveillance level. Benthic macro invertebrate communities are selected as a monitoring target because they are directly exposed to water-borne and particulate-borne contaminants, are ecologically important organisms (i.e., a major food source for fish) and provide multiple sensitive assessment endpoints.
